EG Churches youth celebration – Friday 15th February 7:45 – 9:30pm at JCC on Charlwoods Rd. An invitation to join with young people (11-18yrs) from other churches in our town for an evening of fun and games, a worship band and some chat. Over 90 young people attended the event last time, from St Swithun’s, St John’s, Trinity, JCC, Living Water and Turners Hill Free Church. Fairtrade Fortnight – Monday 25th February – Sunday 10 March. Various events including a Fairtrade Teddy Trail for children, a Fairtrade stall in EG Library on Thursday 28 February and 1 and 2 March, 10-4pm and a Fundraising Quiz and Meal in aid of Fairtrade EG and EG Museum on Monday 4 March at The Ghurka Woodcock Inn. 6.30pm for 7pm. Teams of 8. Two course meal for £20 with £9 going to the two charities plus £1 for Quiz. Raffle. Book now directly with The Ghurka. EG 325325. Fairtrade EG will be donating profits made to the Fairtrade Foundation helping farmers and producers in developing countries.
Churches Together EG AGM – 7.30pm on Wednesday 27th February at St Luke’s Community Centre, Stone Quarry, with John Holmstrom – CEO of Turning Tides (formerly Worthing Churches Homeless Project) who will talk about the challenge of eradicating homelessness in West Sussex. All welcome.
Rucksacks for Refugees – two local volunteers will be taking much-needed supplies to the hundreds of refugees who are still stranded in Calais and Dunkirk with no proper shelter. An appeal is being made for rucksacks (minimum 15 litre capacity – new or used) which can be filled with essential toiletries and food items by the volunteers. So if you have an old rucksack lurking at home that you have been meaning to get rid of, please leave it at either church, by the end of February. And please do ask your friends, neighbours and colleagues too. Thank you very much.
World Day of Prayer – Friday 1 March at 10.30 am and 8pm at St Mary’s Church, Windmill Lane. Prepared by the women of Slovenia with the theme – Come everything is ready! Refreshments and Fairtrade stall.
EG Foodbank – items required Longlife Milk (green I litre), Male deodorant, packs of rice, sliced bread – white or brown, shaving foam, small packs of tissues, 2 or 4 pack toilet rolls, and small packs of washing powder or liquid.
CRAWLEY OPEN HOUSE – welcomes sleeping bags, blankets, and flasks to give to homeless people who turn up at the door when the Centre is full. In addition tinned and packet food is welcome as well as coffee, tea and sugar. Please leave donated items at the back of church at OLSP and St. Bernard’s. Larger items, including duvets and clothes also be donated at both churches, or taken directly to COH at Three Bridges. Tel: 01293 447702.
