Fairtrade Fortnight – Monday 25th February – Sunday 10 March. Various events including a FairtradeTeddy Trail for children, a Fairtrade stall in EG Library on Thursday 28 February and 1 and 2 March, 10-4pm and a Fundraising Quiz and Meal in aid of Fairtrade EG and EG Museum on Monday 4 March at The Ghurka Woodcock Inn. 6.30pm for 7pm. Churches Together EG AGM – 7.30pm on Wednesday 27th February at St Luke’s Community Centre, Stone Quarry, with John Holmstrom – CEO of Turning Tides (formerly Worthing Churches Homeless Project) who will talk about the challenge of eradicating homelessness in West Sussex. All welcome.
Helping young people help others – Are you (or do you know) a young Catholic (aged 16-24) who would like to volunteer to help others? Every year the Catenian Bursary Fund supports young Catholics from all over the world who volunteer to do something wonderful and help those less fortunate than themselves…across the globe. Whether this is on an individual project, or with others – or even if you are planning to travel to Lourdes or on the Jumbulance to help an assisted pilgrim – the Bursary Fund may be able to help you to achieve your aims. Rucksacks for Refugees – two local volunteers will be taking much-needed supplies to the hundreds of refugees who are still stranded in Calais and Dunkirk with no proper shelter. An appeal is being made for rucksacks (minimum 15 litre capacity – new or used) which can be filled with essential toiletries and food items by the volunteers. So if you have an old rucksack lurking at home that you have been meaning to get rid of, please leave it at either church, by the end of February. And please do ask your friends, neighbours and colleagues too. Thank you very much.
DOUBLE THE LOVE FOR MARY’S MEALS – Mary’s Meals has launched a new campaign, Double the Love, that will see the UK government match public donations to Mary’s Meals until 1 March 2019. Around the world, Mary’s Meals is reaching 1,361,586 impoverished children in 17 countries, giving them the energy and opportunity to gain an education that can one day be their ladder our of poverty. With the charity’s low cost approach, a donation of £13.90 will feed a child for a whole school year. During Double the Love, that same donation, when matched by the UK government, will feed two hungry children for the same period of time. CRAWLEY OPEN HOUSE – welcomes sleeping bags, blankets, and flasks to give to homeless people who turn up at the door when the Centre is full. In addition tinned and packet food is welcome as well as coffee, tea and sugar. Please leave donated items at the back of church at OLSP and St. Bernard’s. Larger items, including duvets and clothes also be donated at both churches, or taken directly to COH at Three Bridges. Tel: 01293 447702.
