OUR LADY & ST PETER’S – REFURBISHMENT PROJECT

Some of you may recall Storm Doris which took loose render from the Church tower back in Feb ’17 and which identified a serious problem with render on the tower generally.  As the Church is Grade II listed we appointed a conservation architect to carry out a full survey and production of a scope of the general refurbishment work required.  We are also taking the opportunity to carry out other necessary repairs as well as some upgrade work internally within the Church.  Contractor tenders have been received and our consultant is currently reviewing same with a view to reporting on overall costs.  The Architect will attend Masses on the weekend of 23rd & 24th March to present details of the work planned.  There will be an opportunity to ask questions informally after each mass.

ST PETER’S CATHOLIC PRIMARY SCHOOL GOVERNORS

The governors of St Peter’s are really pleased to be able to share with the parish that our school has once more been judged as good by Ofsted.  One parent is quoted in the report as saying ‘My children are happy and proud to be part of the big family which is St Peter’s.’

Governors are an integral part of this family and the majority of the governors of our school are Foundation governors.  Only Catholics can be considered for this role.  We do currently have a vacancy for a Foundation Governor and it would be great if parishioners would consider putting themselves forward for this role.  Enthusiasm and commitment to your faith and education are the only qualifications! Please speak to Fr Steven if you are interested to learn more.

LOURDES PILGRIMAGE  –  applications for this year’s pilgrimage from 25th July to 2 August are now open for helpers, assisted pilgrims and pilgrims, doctors and nurses.  Please go to http://www.ablourdes.org  For paper application forms and further enquiries please ring 01403 740110 or E-Mail [email protected]

PARISH MAGAZINE  – Our next issue is planned for just before Easter, so we need contributions by the end of March. Members of parish organizations, societies, clubs, etc., anyone who is doing anything in connection with the Parish, the Diocese, the Church, or charities, anything of interest to parishioners, anyone who has been on a pilgrimage…. please consider seriously writing about it and making a contribution. Submissions can, as usual, be left at the back of the church, addressed to Klara King, or, preferably, emailed to me at [email protected]

Helping young  people  help  others –  Are you (or do you know) a young Catholic (aged 16-24) who would like to volunteer to help others? Every year the Catenian Bursary Fund supports young Catholics from all over the world who volunteer to do something wonderful and help those less fortunate than themselves…across the globe. Whether this is on an individual project, or with others – or even if you are planning to travel to Lourdes or on the Jumbulance to help an assisted pilgrim – the Bursary Fund may be able to help you to achieve your aims. Further details, including ‘success stories’, eligibility criteria and an online application, can be found at www.catenianbursary.com.   Or to find out more on the Catenian Association.  Please call Paul Barrett on 01342 870058 or visit www.egcats.co.uk
